Help Support Child Nutrition Programs in North Carolina
Our kids deserve a healthier future!

“Some may ask why healthy foods have to compete with less healthful ones. The answer is simple: finances. The expectation for most Child Nutrition Programs in North Carolina is to be financially self-supporting.”

-Lynn Hoggard EdD, RD, LDN, FADA, Section Chief of Child Nutrition Services at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction

North Carolina Child Nutrition Programs (CNPs) need our help! NC CNPs currently receive NO state financial support and must generate enough money from the sale of the federal school lunch (about 52% of their budget) and à la carte foods and beverages (about 47% of their budget) to be fully self-supporting. Therefore, CNPs have come to rely heavily on the sale of less healthy à la carte foods in order to stay open. Read on to find more information and learn how you can help CNPs in North Carolina!
